Contacting Jason
Why does Jason ask for age, sex and country information?
- Age: Your age is relevant in the type of advice I give to you on the problem page. It's also good for other readers to see that people of their own age are having similar problems. It helps to give the reader a better sense of the person they're reading about.
- Sex: I can't always tell from your name whether you are male or female. Knowing the sex of the person writing help me to offer advice that's as relevant as possible. Putting your sex on the problem page alongside your letter helps readers quickly find letters from guys or girls, allowing them to find material they feel is most relevant to them.
- Country: This is partly out of general interest to me (it's nice to know how far-reaching bgiok is) but also so I don't offer you irrelevant advice. bgiok is UK based. While this doesn't mean you have to be from the UK to write to me (not at all), it does mean I know more about resources available to gay people here, and much less about resources abroad. I also have a much better feel for gay right and other gay issues in the UK. If I know you're from outside the UK, I won't waffle on about youth groups in London, and likewise, if you are from the UK I can suggest local resources that might be useful to you.
